Whatever you do for God, do it with all your heart, soul and mind and store up those eternal treasures.
Recently, at a church meeting for Heads of Departments, it was impressed upon us that we should treat what we do for God as we do our businesses or employment. This caused me to really reflect on what that should look like….
Between work and faith
When I get ready for work I prepare my clothes the night before, I make sure that I get up early so that I can start work on time, I organise myself accordingly so that I get all my work done, I treat my boss with respect, and I deal with my colleagues professionally. I work at home now, but when I worked in an office, I made sure that I dressed accordingly.
Similarly, when you have your own business and you want it to succeed you do what it takes to make it work; stay up late, find the right contacts, and get the correct equipment. Why do we go through all this effort, even for jobs that we may not like? It is likely, because of the reward of pay, sense of achievement or both.
The fact is that the greatest rewards we could ever have are those that we attain when we get to Heaven:
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
Jesus said that we should seek first the Kingdom of God. When we put God’s business first that is part of seeking the Kingdom. So, what is God’s business? Anything that you are responsible for that is related to building God’s Kingdom. If you are the church cleaner or a church leader, put your all into it. God’s business is the priority! In fact, it is a privilege to be involved in God’s business.
I realise that we need a mindset change when we consider the things of God. Sometimes it is so easy for us to make the things of God the last minute or last thought, but this is the wrong way round. Brethren, we are just sojourners on this earth so why prioritise earthly investment when we have an eternal destination.
Whatever you do for God, do it with all your heart, soul and mind and store up those eternal treasures.
